Q : How long will we be without a kitchen?
A : Each renovation is unique unto itself. The length of time it takes depends on such things as, are you changing the flooring? Are there walls moving? Is there electrical to be updated? Which counter top are you purchasing? To ensure that the process takes as little time as possible it is always a good idea to have all the design decisions settled on well in advance.
Q : What can I do to start the process?
A : Before you begin the actual design process it's best to be as prepared as possible. Begin by looking through magazines at the projects featured there. Make a quick note on each what you like about it, whether it's the door style, counter surface, overall appeal, layout etc. This will help your designer get a feel for what you're after. Start to scope out any new appliances or other items you're thinking of and make note of their sizes. Think about how you and your family use the specific space. If at all possible you should also have some idea of budget in mind.
Q : Can we keep our existing kitchen floor?
A : First, does it go underneath the existing cabinets? If not, the new cabinets will have to be within the same footprint or the floor will have to be patched. Second, new renovations can make some existing items seem shabby.
Q : When, in the process of our kitchen reno, do we do the floor?
A : In most cases the floor goes in before the cabinets. It is recommended that some floating floors be installed after so they remain floating.
Q : Where do I go for appliances, lighting and other accessories?
A : Being in the industry for a number of years, we have developed relationships with several home improvement-related businesses from large appliances to gas fireplaces to restoration work. We rely on these individual's expertise in their field and will happily recommend them to you.
